Interserve Wins £6.9m University of Glamorgan Development

30 Sep 2008

Interserve has won a £6.9 million contract from the University of Glamorgan to undertake the "HESAS" Development providing new health, sports and science facilities at the university's Glyntaff Campus, Pontypridd.

The scheme entails the relocation of the Health Education, Sports and Science departments into the existing "school building" and extension, which were previously occupied by Coleg Morgannwg Art College. These premises are to be refurbished and a new two-storey-plus-basement extension is to be constructed at the rear to link through to the existing premises.

Work in the existing Grade II listed building will include demolition of selected internal structural walls and the removal of areas of asbestos, mezzanine floors, associated staircases and structures.

The new extension will incorporate composite concrete floors, insulated perimeter walls of brick blockwork, insulated render panels on metal framing and double-glazed, thermally-broken, aluminium ribbon windows with feature glass fins.

External works will include the construction of new retaining walls and the creation of a two-way-access road system from the roundabout to the car parking and access road at the rear of the new extension.

David Paterson, Managing Director of Interserve Project Services, commented, "This major project will provide enhanced facilities for all the departments involved. We are looking forward to working closely with the University of Glamorgan as we turn the plans into an exciting reality from which the students and staff will benefit."
