£14m Mental Health Facilities Under Construction

11 Apr 2003

Interserve Project Services is building a £14m healthcare project involving the re-provision of adult mental health facilities in Portsmouth and Havant for Portsmouth City and East Hampshire Primary Care Trusts.

There will be four brand-new buildings, two in each location: a short-term treatment facility; and a smaller residential facility which will act as a longer-stay unit offering rehabilitation treatment for people who have had mental health problems. The Havant buildings are situated on a greenfield site at Oak Park, while those in Portsmouth are located within the grounds of St James Hospital. In total, the project will be providing 94 beds.

Construction works on site have begun and Interserve Project Services is now working closely with the client, team members and sister company Interserve Engineering Services to handover these important new facilities early next year.

The appointment of Interserve follows on from its successful completion in 2002 of the Portsmouth Social Services Day and Respite Care Centres PFI project for Portsmouth City Council. A spokesperson at Portsmouth City NHS Primary Care Trust, commented, "We were very impressed with Interserve's delivery of the facilities for our colleagues at Social Services and are glad to be working with them on this vital project. They have a refreshingly positive approach and have shown that they understand the special needs of the patients we'll be treating."

Interserve has a growing workload in the health sector, including its appointment last year as a Principal Supply Chain Partner with NHS Estates under the pilot NHS ProCure 21 framework.
