Plc  >  Social responsibility  >  Noise, Nuisance and Dust

The quality of the immediate environment and that of our neighbours and indeed the health and safety of our employees, is important to us.

Particular attention is paid to avoid noise, nuisance and dust pollution levels during any of our activities, reducing their impact on the local community.

Where risk has been identified, we measure noise levels and take measures to reduce them where necessary.  Sound cleaning regimes reduce the impact of any significant dust or odours, all employees are issued with appropriate PPE and we restrict the timing of activities where appropriate.

Sustainability in practice

Innovative waste management solutions were introduced as part of our PFI project to rebuild, refurbish and operate the Royal Navy's Single Living Accommodation at the Fleet Accommodation Centre at Devonport – the largest HM naval base in Western Europe.  We recognised that waste previously consigned to landfill could be used on the MOD estate and recycled by local companies and not-for-profit organisations, resulting in cost savings and landfill diversion and minimising disruption to local communities.
