Plc  >  Social responsibility  >  Land Use

Our use of land not only demands care to avoid and/or minimise any negative impacts, it also affords opportunities to invoke positive impacts.

Appropriate planning submissions and consideration of environmental impact assessment needs are part of our approach to land use.

We also aim to conserve, protect and enhance ecology and biodiversity.

Sustainability in practice
  • We undertook extensive works to protect existing trees in our refurbishment of current facilities at Edinburgh University
  • At a Mansfield project we used biological methods to clean up a contaminated brownfield site
  • We undertook a month-long ecological survey for great crested and smooth newts at a site on Gatwick Airport to ensure none would be disturbed by our construction activities
  • Interserve's joint venture, Landmarc Support Services, supplied direct labour to construct marker posts, bridle gates and more unusual sustainable features such as a 'corduroy road' on the Epynt Way, which provides a unique opportunity for walkers to enjoy the more remote parts of the Sennybridge Ranges on the MOD's Defence Training Estate
  • Our sympathetic car park design protected a mature oak tree with a Tree Preservation Order located in the middle of the car park site at RAF High Wycombe.
  • We manage and maintain over 100 Sites of Special Scientific Interest and more than 700 ancient monuments across the Defence Estate.
