Plc  >  Social responsibility  >  Emissions

Emissions, particularly that of CO2 are of global concern as they are widely accepted as contributing to global warming.  Emissions to air, land and water can also cause pollution.

In addressing this issue we consider all relative emissions and in particular those generated by energy production and usage and transport use.

Our energy strategy helps us to reduce related emissions and we have developed a Green Transport Plan to support more efficient use of resources.

Arrangements are also in place to record and address any pollution incidents and near misses.

Sustainability in practice

  • Interserve’s Green Transport Plan encourages reduction in use of private/business vehicles and sound management, including robust maintenance, good driving techniques and smart logistics of those that are used.
  • A fleet of LPG vehicles has been introduced to support the use of alternatively fuelled vehicles.
  • Vehicle trackers have been installed in fleet vehicles at Slough Borough Council, reducing fuel consumption by 4%, as well as emissions, fuel and maintenance costs.  The client has also seen a 10% increase in performance efficiency whilst maintaining overall staff levels.
  • We promote car-sharing, increased use of public transport and a reduction in business travel by using alternatives such as voice and video conferencing as well as home working.
  • We reduced emissions at The Mall, Cribbs Causeway by 300 tonnes a year in support of PRUPIM’s commitment to reduce carbon emissions through efficiencies in transport, energy and waste management.
