Plc > Media > News > Twyford staff support SportsAid Twyford staff support SportsAid 5 Dec 2002 Local staff from Twyford employer Interserve Plc have raised nearly £300 for SportsAid, the charity that specialises in supporting young athletes at a local and national level. Some 40 Interserve staff carried out a number of sponsored activities during lunch breaks. The money will be used to support 14-year-old Nick Compton of Winchester, one of the country’s most promising young ice hockey players and already one of the top 10 defence players in England for his age group. Nick has been chosen to play for the South West under 15 team and has won a host of awards since he started playing at the age of eight. Maintaining this standard and competing in national competitions in the UK and overseas requires a lot of travelling and the SportsAid grant will be used to defray some of these costs. Nick has competed in France and Holland and has recently returned from a two-week development camp in British Columbia in Canada. SportsAid is Interserve’s chosen charity and its sole purpose is to help finance the development of young sporting talent between the ages of 12 and 18, where Lottery Funding does not reach, across some 60 sports from archery to yachting. The charity raises funds from private individuals, companies and trusts to help parents pay for travelling and competition expenses, equipment and treatments for injuries. |
