Interserve Wins £30m Health Project

28 Oct 2008

Interserve, the services, maintenance and building group, has been awarded the £30 million contract to design and build a new maternity ward and day surgery for Poole Hospital, Dorset.

The new unit will be built with the hospital's main site at Longfleet Road and the new development will accommodate both the new maternity hospital and a day‑surgery unit.

A project board has been set up to oversee the new build. The design development will involve all staff from maternity and day surgery together with patients and the wider community, ensuring the departments are centred around patients' and clinical needs. Work is scheduled to start on site before the end of 2009, with the project due for completion in 2012.

John Vyse, executive Director, Interserve, said: "We are looking forward to working with Poole Hospital to create this wonderful new building. Our extensive experience in designing and building modern hospital facilities will help us deliver a ward for the people of Poole to be proud of."

Peter Harvey, Chairman of Poole Hospital NHS Foundation Trust, said: "This marks a very important stage in the history of Poole Hospital, with the start of a major new development. We are delighted to be working in partnership with Interserve on this exciting new project. Our aim is to create an innovative facility that meets the needs of our local population now and for the future."
