Tameside Schools PFI Project

Interserve Investments plc has an equity stake in this PFI Project, consisting of the design, construction, finance and operation of two new primary schools and one new secondary school located east of Manchester.

Interserve Project Services Ltd are the design and build partners on this project. The new Primary Schools; Pinfold and Arundale (with 210 and 450 places respectively) were built on the existing sports pitch in close proximity to the existing premises, and then decanted prior to the demolition of the existing premises and completion of external works and play areas.

The innovative design of the new primary schools involved the use of high-level opening windows to allow a natural ventilation strategy to be used.

In the halls, the inclusion of high roofs and full-length high windows also allowed for natural light and increased energy efficiency.

Arundale Primary School also features a new design of circulation space using two 2.1 metre corridors either side of the shared amenities.

The new secondary school, Alder Community High has a capacity of 750 places and was built on a new Greenfield site, which also encompasses an area of specific biological interest and a breeding area for Great Crested Newts.

Services are being delivered by Interservefm Ltd and commenced at both primary schools in early September 2002 and at Alder High in April 2003. These include; repairs, maintenance, security, cleaning, energy management, catering, care taking, IT and telecommunications.
