PriDE win's British Institute of Facilities Management Sustainability Award

3 Nov 2008

Interserve and Southern Electric Contracting (SEC) joint venture, PriDE, has won the prestigious sustainability award at the British Institute of Facilities Management Awards 2008. PriDE collected the prize at the ceremony in London for its successful delivery of a socially, economically and environmentally sustainable solution to the Defence Estates South East Regional Prime Contract.

The seven year, £380 million contract involves estate management and construction at almost 100 MoD sites in South East England and has sustainability engrained within it. Interserve and SEC’s initiatives include the development and implementation of a Sustainable Development Management System and a Sustainability Working Group to monitor and enhance sustainability through the contract. A staff incentive scheme has been created to encourage innovative ideas that cut environmental and financial costs and the initiative also increases staff engagement. Additionally, a Sustainability Week has met great success in raising awareness and engaging employees.

Outcomes include anticipated 45 per cent energy savings in Princess Royal Barracks, Deepcut, 30 - 40 per cent energy savings at Elizabeth Barracks, ATR Pirbright and a client endorsement that PriDE is the ‘leading environmental champion on the military estate’.

Tim Payne, PriDE Board Chairman commented: “It is a great achievement to win this award. We have worked hard to set a benchmark for sustainable practices and we’re delighted to have been recognised for this. Sustainability is an increasingly important consideration for the MoD and our success at the BIFM awards reflects our progress at meeting and surpassing customer demand.”

Col John Brown, DCOS London District said: “PriDE, the Interserve and SEC joint venture, continues to deliver excellent results on this contract. From the highest strategic level to the ground support and service delivery, PriDE is setting a fantastic standard in the area of sustainability and has rightly been recognised by this award.”

The BIFM International Investors in FM Excellence Awards celebrate achievements in the facilities management sector and this year was attended by over 1,000 industry leaders. The sustainability award commends the practical implementation of socially, environmentally and economically sustainable practices in FM operations.
