Facilities Services > News > Interserve to put the Roundhouse in order Interserve to put the Roundhouse in order 30 Jun 2004 Interserve Engineering Services has secured a £3.5 million contract with the Roundhouse Trust to replace the mechanical, electrical, public health and specialist theatre systems at the Roundhouse, Camden. The existing Grade 2* listed building was originally a steam-engine repair room which, in the 1960s and ’70s, became a legendary venue for rock concerts. The building closed in 1983 and remained empty for years but is now the subject of a complete renovation. The restoration will return the Roundhouse to its position at the centre of London’s cultural life hosting international productions of all art forms, accommodating up to 3,300 people standing or 1,700 seated. At its heart will be a unique creative centre with state-of-the-art facilities for music, television, radio, design and performance production, giving young people the opportunity to explore their creative talents in every aspect of arts and to develop interests, skills and career opportunities. Interserve Engineering Services will be working with the main contractor Tolent Construction on the project, which started on site in May 2004 and is due for completion in Autumn 2005.
